Feminist therapy is by and for women of all colors and backgrounds. Its theory, practice, and research must be developed from and by a full diversity of women. The following commitments are designed to create and maintain a diversity to benefit all members and all with whom we work.
We make the first priority of our affirmative action program a conscious commitment to anti-racist and anti-discriminatory policies and actions, as well as to becoming multiracial and multicultural.
We attempt to keep access to FTI leadership open, so that women previously under-represented can participate fully in shaping the goals, activities and products of the Institute.
We will continue to identify problems of under-representation in membership, and develop further specific steps toward a full breadth of diversity.

Dues for the Feminist Therapy Institute, Inc. are $80 a year. Members who cannot manage the full fee are asked to set their own dues on a personally responsible basis at an amount between a minimum of $25 and the basic fee of $80.
The Feminist Therapy Institute Inc. (FTI) is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to further the development of the theory, techniques, training, and practice of feminist therapy. Our primary aim is to provide opportunities to learn from each other and to further the influence of feminist therapy theory and methodology in clinical practice, research, education and community involvement.
The theory and practice we develop needs to be based on the experiences of all women. We define feminist therapy as including the realities of cult ure and ethnicity. Experience varies considerably according to such factors as race, class, age, sexual preference, physical ability, education, and work experience. Therefore, FTI is committed to being an organization of women of varying backgrounds. We are also committed to using our differences as a source of strength in our theory development.
The criterion for membership is knowledge of feminist therapy principles and their application to practice through study, mentoring and or experience.
This might have been acquired through:

- -mentoring and or supervision by a feminist therapist or educator
- experience integrating feminist principles into therapy practice
