We function within the organization through a feminist process that has been developing through the 20 years of FTI’s existence. We make a conscious commitment to anti-racist and anti-discriminatory policies and actions, as well as to becoming multiracial and multicultural.
We work to keep access to FTI leadership open, so that women previously under-represented can participate fully in shaping the goals, activities and products of the Institute. We continually identify problems of under-representation in membership, and develop further specific steps toward a full breadth of diversity.
Members come together for a weekend every one to two years to learn, engage, and connect with one another at Advanced Feminist Therapy Institutes ( AFTIs).

The Steering Committee follows through between meetings and holds interim responsibility.
A part-time Administrator who is responsible to the Steering Committee keeps the process of FTI flowing smoothly.
Every member in good standing is eligible for election to the Steering Committee; she may nominate herself or be nominated by another member. Each year, the terms of office of one-third of the Steering Committee expire. We are committed to sharing power and encouraging new leadership.
